Sustainability in a new dimension
Styrian tech company contributes to minimizing carbon footprint: BDI opens largest waste-based biodiesel plant in Belgium.
(Raaba-Grambach, June 15, 2022): Following the successful commissioning of the BDI biodiesel plants in Hungary and the USA, the third RepCAT plant was opened this year in Ghent, Belgium, on June 15, 2022.
In 2020, the global company Cargill engaged the Styrian plant manufacturer BDI to build a biodiesel plant of the newest generation in Ghent. Cargill is one of the world's leading food, feed and renewable resources trading companies with annual sales of nearly $135 billion. Currently the company employs > 155,000 people in 70 countries.
The tailor-made plant in Belgium is the largest to produce sustainable biodiesel using BDI’s patented RepCAT process technology and enables maximum economic operation. More than 115,000 tons of biodiesel can be produced from residual and waste materials, which means that more than 155,000 vehicles may be operated carbon-neutrally every year.
Key data regarding the project in Ghent:
